CMTP President Sets the Record Straight

Dear CMTP Patriots,
As many of you
know, three representatives of the Central Mississippi TEA Party
(CMTP) were invited to participate in an interview in June 2012 with
the Jackson Free Press (JFP). During that interview--unknown
to me at the time--there was a video being recorded. It appears that
the video is now (in October 2012) going ‘viral’ via the internet,
and I feel that I must address the despicable acts of this liberal
publication to smear our organization and efforts.
This is proof the liberal media in MS will
stoop to new levels of low to ‘create’ news. The JFP contacted
the CMTP and asked for the interview. No one with the Tea
Party approached the JFP for an interview. The reporter said
he would record the interview to be sure all statements quoted were
correct. There was also a photographer present taking
snapshots. I did not know the interview was being recorded by
video, and the angle of the shot clearly shows that it was being
hidden from us. I thought the interview was for print media only; no
one discussed releasing a video of the interview.
I should never
have trusted that the conservative viewpoint would get fair
treatment from such a liberal publication. The video version
of the interview that has gone ‘viral’ is a heavily edited portion
that shows me making a statement in jest to questioning by the
reporter about gender and whether women should be in politics.
My response was ‘tongue in cheek’ and I gave a ridiculous answer,
both in words and tone of voice, to what I found to be a ridiculous
premise.
I attempted to
challenge his ridiculous line of questioning about a women’s right
to vote. It was my mistake to respond to his attempts to bait me,
and to try jokingly to prove my point of how outrageous his
questions really were. This only further proves that JFP has no
commitment to journalistic standards, and they only serve to play
“gotcha” politics for cheap publicity. After all, it is obvious that
I believe women have a place in politics, or I wouldn’t be doing
what I do every day.
I have always voted since I turned 21.
My father drilled into my head that it was a DUTY not just a
‘right’. Our ballot box is the first line of defense of our
Freedom and Liberty. It is the responsibility of ALL citizens
to do their DUTY to our country – no matter their political
leanings. Every adult, no matter the gender, should bear this
responsibility for our country. It is in my personality to
bring up the DUTY of voting in conversation, and I have always
encouraged Americans of voting age to be sure to register and
exercise their DUTY to defend this country at the ballot box.
I remain committed to the TEA Party’s cause of Limited
Government, Fiscal Responsibility, and Free Markets. I remain
committed to lead our Tea Party to be active in local issues,
statewide issues and national issues.
Please know I regret the negative spin JFP has put on this
interview. I think it is unfortunate that an opportunity for
understanding is manipulated by the writers and editor of JFP in
order to further advance their liberal agenda in Mississippi. This
could have been a positive event for the CMTP and JFP.
Instead, they chose to spin it into a negative, divisive encounter.
